So, who stands to gain from the project being killed (i.e. if the developers get doxxed)? Steam/Valve, because they sell the PC version of the game? I don’t buy it. Sony? That’s an even greater stretch.

Bet on "people are stupid": usually it's the winning horse to these philosophical issues.

Humans are flawed, and make stupid things; sometime it's not even about malice/narcissism, but because they are in hard time in their lives.

I don't remember which project, but a volunteer developer sustained for many years a very popular dependency package for the web: it was free and companies worth millions used his software without ever-never give anything back. When the dude was in economic/life hardship he sabotaged his own project in some sort of form of protest.

"but that's not about PC videogame"

Well, I think together with Valve, in this period Capcom has been the strongest entity the PC gaming industry (as far AAA goes): maybe the PC gaming industry is actually taking all the spot Sony left open?

    Translation:

"Sony&Microsoft birbe us with lot of money to release on their console, because their console are worthless without birbed exclusives.

Valve won't birbe us because they are still into that obsolete thing called... <>

Ultimately Epic Games can't afford to biribe us"

Is probably the most "legitimate feeling" giving experience. You can be a legitimate owner of a copy of a game and use a random iso dump of the very same game, but just plug the actual thing gives different strokes.

Laws are those things that anytime touch you and the people around you, should always raise red flags; even (and especially) if they come from people you like... you won't get people like the MAGA so forcefully fed in any BS if this was a common practice.

Once you haven't raised red flags on politician you like... you'll risk to be trapped forever in the shame you share with them.

    Typo fixed.

I do usually mirror on archive.org/archive.is (whoever save the page first) when a website become annoying with unreasonable amount of popup ("please log", "please install our app", "please eat our spyware cookie", "please pay subscription if you don't want to sell your data")... All this on net positive of ublock already blocking most crap.
