Yeah, at this point we're dealing with guys like Musk single-handedly pouring half a billion into elections, I don't think it's an affordability problem. And historically, smaller seats tend to be easier to bribe for, not harder. Look at any local government, especially in less populous areas, they're some of the most corrupt politicians.

More directly, corporate dollars just don't have any place in our politics, for any size election.

I've been using a combination of Google and Microsoft office products since forever, I'd love to switch, but I really don't understand where the hell I'm supposed to go. I can't really self-host (I only have a phone and laptop that I use as mobile devices) and I'd really like to not have to actively think about how my email works when I'm using it. I was sort of hoping Proton would be it, but they just keep sucking harder and harder, they don't seem like a viable alternative anymore.

Does anyone here have some advice?

Because if you do the one-time tax, people might start asking for a permanent rise in billionaire taxes. When it succeeds, people might start asking about broader redistribution policies.

They cannot allow one single victory, because any momentum to the left threatens their absolute power, and wherever possible will crush it under their heel.

I don't think it's that. His supporters know he's a pedophile and they like it. He likes Russia because he's invested in their markets, their oligarchs bribe him and his cadre, and because he and his ilk intend to make America into another Russia. It's little saint James all the way down.
