Is that remarkable? The authors make the prevalence of parasites as the big takeaway from their study, but bizarrely they don't cite any other papers of typical parasite load in this fish species or others. I need a frame of reference.
Very nice, thanks. Love the sound of the cymbals.
Yes and I will judge anyone who doesn't recommend me their favorite demo tape
90s demo tapes hit different though. The crustiness really enhances the overall atmosphere of certain genres.
Ysigim - Ain Soph Or (1994) is a personal favorite. They did a digital rerelease recently and it's too clean, I don't like it.
Sphinx moth of some kind. Compare to Sphinx chersis.
It's amazing how rich and ancient China's literary history is. I should make more of an effort to get into Chinese writing, all I've read is Shi Naian's Water Margin which was great fun. Maybe Confucius' Analects would be a good place to start with the really old stuff.
I'm curious what piqued your interest in this book. Was it an engaging read?
My most expensive is probably Dindal's Soil Biology Guide (1990), which cost around $300 as well. The print quality is pathetically bad given the price I paid, the spine came off only a few months after buying. Wiley Blackwell 🤢
The Latin name is fun though.
Both the generic name Lamium and the specific epithet galeobdolon were used by Pliny the Elder in the first century AD.[43] The name galeobdolon has several possible origins.[44] It may come from the Latin words galeo meaning "to cover with a helmet" and dolon meaning "a fly's sting", or it may come from the Greek words γαλέη (galéē) "weasel; marten; polecat", and βδόλος (bdólos) "foetid smell", an allusion to the smell of the leaves. The latter interpretation is likely the source of the old common name 'yellow weasel-snout'.[45]
Plant enjoyers should also appreciate the Sparganium inflorescence in the back
I like all these goofy guys you post. Does the pointy nose perform a function or is it just stylish?
You can try iNaturalist. It can scan your images and guess at what species you have. You can publish your observations and other people on the platform may suggest a name if they know what it is. It's probably your best bet if you aren't willing to spend the time and energy required to learn how to identify them yourself.
The colors are striking in among the flowers like that. Great shot
