This is a valid argument. I respect that.
When I'm alone and watch something funny, I laugh harder than when I'm with company
Correct! Isn't freedom fun? I can call you out for being bent out of shape for such an insignificant thing, or for being unnecessarily mean to a stranger, and you can laugh at me. Hell, Imma laugh with you on that one. Cheers fellow asshole!
It is fascinating. I'm not gonna force them to change the way they speak if they choose not to tho. At the end of the day, I knew what they meant, and it matches what their intentions are, then communication has happened. It's a casual setting after all, not gonna die on this hill.
Note that the rules change depending on context. This is just to casual a space for forcing people to say one thing or another.
It's an amazing book, but I don't think that the comparison here works. There's a difference in a powerful power structure that's using language to manipulate a population (people have a lot to say about the newspeak and 2+2=5, but can't see the forest for the trees) and a person on a web forums choosing not say fuck. Let the person choose how they want to communicate. The only one here forcing their rules are the ones who are saying they SHOULD say fuck rather than f*ck
What actually changes for you if they said fuck? I just find it fascinating that it's such a big deal.
You can also choose not to
