This is a very good article about what happens when you agree to verify your Linkedin account, and probably any kind of big tech age verification process.

All your data including photographs are shared with a company called Persona, which is the invisible middleman nobody heads about. That company then shares your data with at least 17 huge big tech companies, including Anthropic, OpenAi, Groqcloud, AWS, Google Cloud, ResistantAI, MongoDB and others.

Understanding what I actually agreed to took me an entire weekend reading 34 pages of legal documents.

I handed a US company my passport, my face, and the mathematical geometry of my skull. They cross-referenced me against credit agencies and government databases. They’ll use my documents to train their AI. And if the US government comes knocking, they’ll hand it all over — even if it’s stored in Europe, even if I’m European, and possibly without ever telling me.

Jesus, so all of this age, id verification they are straight up telling us they are using it for commercial purposes and sharing it with data brokers and tech companies? I hope no one does it, and instead drops out and finds fediverse alternatives, this could be the trigger that gets critical mass, and gets the impetuous to make some new social media to meet the needs that corporate tech has refused us without unacceptable costs.

Yeah, I hoped that XING would be it (sans decentralized) but it is totally dead. And also I assume that without heavy sponsorship it is impossible to have this kind of a platform to exist.

Also LinkedIn is only useful if you are a heavy sales navigator user.

To add to the article, Persona is also one of the companies at the centre of the recent furore around Discord age verification.

That's among the reasons I never had a LinkedIn account.

Even the original use case for LinkedIn asked you to have your entire work history and contact information on the site. That alone always made it a massive target for bad actors trying to collect information to use for identity theft.

Decided to verify my account few months ago because, as per LinkedIn, verification makes your chances of getting recruited higher (which may be total bullshit). But when I saw it led to a third-party service that seemed pretty shaddy and over the top, I decided against it. Glad I trusted my gut feeling
