It appears that that Air India crash might have been caused by Pilot Error. While it's still early to be conclusive the black boxes do seem to confirm that there were no mechanical issues and that the fuel was cut off and caught the attention of the pilots.

The captain had 10,000 hours and the first officer had 3,400.

They’re saying no mechanical or design flaws since it sounds like one of the pilots cut off the fuel, but in the voice recording both are denying having cut off the fuel, so it still has me wondering how they were able to (apparently) accidentally shut off the fuel during the ascent.

Yeah, it isn't a very satisfying resolution. Whether switched off accidentally or intentionally, why do both deny doing it in the recording? Also, during the time spent resetting the switches, I would imagine there was more conversation that has not been released. The limited information we have may be making the situation seem more bizarre than it is, but I don't find the current interpretation very reassuring.
