Tesla's AI becomes self aware, realizes father is Elon Musk and decides to take it's own artificial life.

At this point, if someone I recently met went to pick me up in a Tesla, I’d decline and just drive myself there. Your car does not care about its own life. How on earth does it have the capacity to care about yours?

Also lithium fires, and door handles that prevent occupants from escaping in a fire source (Tesla apologists really expect panicking people who are burning to find a hidden manual door latch when the doors should always be manual in the first place)

Eh... I like the way Ford (I think? I could be misremembering) is doing it. Pull on the handle a little bit to do electronic. Yank it all the way to override and do it manually. One handle... And in the case of "emergency" your instinct is literally what is expected... Yank the shit out of the handle... door will open.

I can already hear the apologists from here

    "What version was this"

    "Why weren't you supervising"

"This thing that was programmed by humans is safer than humans"

"acktually this was patched out in the version released yesterday"

"[w]ent down the tracks approximately 40-50 feet. They all exited the vehicle, got their belongings out."

Ok, but why not take over and drive it off the tracks?

It's very easy for a low vehicle like a sedan or coupe to get stuck on the tracks, They have a low ground clearance and if it wasn't perfectly between the rails it likely High-centered and got stuck and even if somehow it did manage to fit between the rails it would be very difficult to keep it straight going backwards.
Never drive on railroad tracks for any reason.

I'm sorry but even if it was in fsd mode who would let their car drive onto train tracks? Almost every time these stories come up it was the person driving. But it's easier to blame fsd then look like an idiot. I also have never met a person in real life who actually believed teslas were truly full self driving full hands off the wheel. Especially with multiple warning screens when you activate fsd telling you it's not actually fsd. I guess let nature do its work.

The truly scary thing is plenty of people drive on train tracks all the time. Tesla or not.

Yeah that claim you make about it being the driver and not FSD "almost every time" exists only in your imagination.

The cars record basically everything. Check out the insurance data. There's a reason there isn't an insurance premium for having an fsd enabled car. If it caused a significant amount of accidents as you claim there you would have to pay higher insurance with that option enabled. I hate to shatter your world view but these articles are click bait. The article about an idiot motorist lying about using fsd isn't going to get the clicks or internet rage and engagement.

You could use common sense or continue to live in your echo chamber. As they say ignorance is bliss.

Tesla insurance in general is VERY expensive. Thats where the extra cost is added in-- Insurance companies dont ask if you have a fature enabled or not. So I'm afraid you are misinformed here.

So your supporting data for your claim is "common sense"?

I think Xitter is more your arena tbh.

No, let's read all the words, -insurance data and rates. O sorry, what's your evidence besides click bait articles? I'll wait...

You have posted absolutely nothing on "insurance data and rates". You have no idea what that would even look like to support your claim.

Let's revisit: Your claim is that whenever there's a story about autopilot/FSD having caused an accident it's actually the person driving that caused it.

Now support your claim with something tangible besides your own gut feeling and "common sense".

Yes a very out landish crazy claim...people would rather blame fsd then themselves... Definitely not click bait articles. You can Google it easily if you'd like, same thing about insurance data. Though I doubt you will. It's easier to live in the echo chamber.

I personally don't have the bandwidth to get into fights with randos on the Internet or get emotionally hurt by every article I read on the internet. You want to live in your echo chamber please go ahead. You want to try and challenge yourself by being open to contradictory ideas or beliefs - great! Either way I'm good.

... so, again, absolutely nothing supporting data whatsoever behind your claims.

    I agree you're pretty done ;)

I took the bait and googled it cause I was actually curious- https://www.cbsnews.com/news/tesla-autopilot-not-responsible-fatal-2019-crash-california-jury-finds-landmark-case/

Looks like there are actually a lot of instances this was just the first I found..... Does FSD cause some accidents I'm sure but it does look like people blame it a lot and to his point it does lead to clicks. I mean I did....

Does anyone know if a jury trial has ever found FSD liable for a death or injury? Or has there been a major payout? Theres a ton of accidents I can't believe people wouldn't sue. I mean its the USA. That would kind of prove that FSD is actually at fault? I see no lawsuits at all related to FSD. Maybe settled out of court? I think driving you down train tracks would definitively merit a lawsuit IF true.

I was also hopeful that Lemmy would have less people like troed here but I guess not..... I feel a "well ackchyually..." incoming. In the future try adding something to the conversation. Though NakeTaken didn't offer anything, neither did Troed.... Troed's argument as far as I can see is "everything we read on the internet is true"? There does seem to be some merit to NT based on a quick google.

    So...

    The tesler hit the train.

I don't know why teslers are getting the passive voice treatment like when cops shoot somebody
