The war on drugs promised a drug-free society and instead delivered a Britain in which thousands of young people carry criminal records for non-violent offences that haunt them for the rest of their lives; patients who need essential medicines are denied access to them; and people struggling with substance use are met not with care and support, but with shame and punishment.

Ooof!

He is right. I highly recommend reading Good Cop, Bad War by Neil Woods, who was an undercover police officer working on drugs busts and is scathing about the negative effects of the 'War On Drugs'.

On a political level Zack Polanski is smart to get this out of the way early in the election cycle. Still, most of the people who will be up in arms about this are old Tories and will be therefore voting for Reform anyway.

    Prohibition doesn't work

Declaring "war" on inanimate objects just attacks the people who interact with those objects, it doesn't fix problems or help anyone.

I'm fairly sure a major reason it isn't even an idea here is because they fear the suicide rates would go up.

They even limited the amount of basic ass painkillers you can buy at a time.
