I gave in to curiosity. It's not a SNW spoiler. However, if you don't want to be spoiled about a Simpsons episode from like 20+ years ago, don't click those spoilers.

why do folks in this community throw so much shade at SNW?

I think it's pretty good and like how it mixes scifi, camp and character development.

The show is not perfect but any stretch, but I feel it gets a ton of outlandish critiques.

SNW is amazing in the first season, pretty good second but I could see the plot loosening, and off the rails (derogatory) in S3. They didnt even bother to build towards my guy Pike's storyline it started on.

Now, all that being said, SNW is still fun even if it goes no where and doesnt do half of what it could with the characters to instead focus on meta themed episodes about TV as a whole, I still like it and will watch it in the reruns.

It definitely needed 6 or so seasons and it would've bloomed better.

I can only speak for myself, but it had a great start and only declined in seasons 2 and three, with multiple outright problematic episodes in season 3 (that also just went against everything Star Trek represents in terms of values and philosophy, and while there occasionally were really troublesome episodes before (Code of Honor, anyone?), the density of those episodes in S3 was awfully high). Season 4 was slightly better again, but some issues seem to have become woven into the fabric of the show (why on earth are they trying to depict Spock so damn straight and take all the queerness out of him?), the amount of gimmick episodes was staggering and I do not believe they can reach the highs of S1 again. And when a show peaks in its first season, I find that pretty sad, tbh (even more so the longer a show runs).

SNW started off prestige trek and turned into a pastiche of everything and utter shitposting. (I'd say its a lesson in serialising enshittification but american gods quite rightly owns that throne)

They fucked up using Rhys Derby. I didn't even think that was fucking possible

Man, discussing the show under any other post I get, but this is uncool. Please let me enjoy [and experience] the show [by myself]

It's not bad. I enjoy it. Low points are REALLY low though. But some of the gimmick episodes are really fun.

    It's actually hopeful.

Do not look to hope, it has long forsaken these lands.

    Report back!

Kokusnussritter to command. We have successfully carried out our first mission. Spirits are high. If I may speak freely - it was alittle different than expected yet first impression remains positive. I shall ignore the first part, as it is a bit cryptic and once I pieced it together I felt the excitment waning. End transmission.

    SNW?

edit: Strange New Worlds I guess. Wow, I'm out of touch.

I dunno why, but my first instinct was to read the acronym as "Star Trek New Worlds." Totally forgot the name of the show for a minute there.

Yeah, apparently I'm brain damaged. ToS, TNG, DS9, and I didn't "get it" first time. Wow.

The lean into gimmick episodes ruined it.
