Raising compulsory super could do the same job as raising interest rates — but the money is yours. So why aren't we talking about it?

This has the same issue as raising interest rates as a form of inflation control; inflation is not currently being driven by discretionary spending, so reducing discretionary spending has limited effectiveness.

Or just accept housing is a monster that needs to be culled, and increase rates. Affluence is hindering everyone, some have a choice, some are trapped by essential buys, those who cant afford life shouldn't also be pushed into higher super to appease those with bloated debt. Either way inflation is coming for all.

At least it's a way to target inflation at population level rather than the what 40-50% who have a mortgage? There's also zero benefit to the population with an interest increase a forced reduction in temporary cash flow that benefits the population is advantageous no? Only thought would be likely those with a higher income and thus higher contribution into super are likely going to be able to access it sooner

It’s a way, but like inflation it’s a blanket that impacts all vrs a small % of over leveraged.

Don’t get me wrong it’s not great that people who have bought at stupid prices have to suffer. They didn’t ask for it. But the country has allowed housing to dictate its economy. There is not way out it’s like watching a spoiled wild dog backed in a corner. At some point you have to stop feeding it.
