The next episode of our monthly chat + feedback thread.

No matter what topic, if you want to talk about it then just write it in a comment :)

Last month was uneventful for me, so I don't have a comment this time.

Yeah, I really like this part of gaming

From what I saw, Infomaniak use the heat generated by data centers to heat up buildings. Also, on the funny topic of profit motivation, there's been a recent trend where people use generative AI to reverse engineer software that need subscription to make them open-source and available for free. But yeah, there's also the darker part where people are getting replaced by it. I don't like the fact that it's used for surveillance and is trained on stolen data, but it's not just capitalism that use it for surveillance (e.g : China).

For Bazzite, the confusion comes from multiple things : there independent projects and tools developed by community members that run on or integrate with Bazzite that are vibecoded, but the code for Bazzite have been reviewed multiple times. Its official GitHub repository shows approximately 8,400 commits, with a large number of contributors and pull requests, which would be very unusual if it was vibecoded. Bazzite uses established Linux component (based on Fedora Atomic) and its maintainers announced collaboration with the Open Gaming Collective in January 2026. Some tools created by the members of the community that are associated with Bazzite are indeed vibecoded, but it's not the case for the distro.

If people were not trying to be unrespectful but would talk to each other in a peaceful way, we sure would get way more less issues.

Yeah, character customization makes me happy...Gets me immersed into a title.

I will have to look into Infomaniak myself, as I am still uncertain about them myself. A company can do good things to mask the not so great things going on in the background...I won't make up my mind yet. Honestly, I just view the GenAI vibe-coding of software to be slop, the use of the hard work of others (often scraped from open source projects) to fuel a not healthy movement in open source. I will not be touching a single one of those tainted warez, a funny note is that the corpo made and peddled models are already coming out with restrictions to stop people from doing this. Because, that would mean corporations would be facing the consequences of their own actions, as they have abused their customers for years. It does give me the ick, but, this is a natural consequence of tech that was pushed to market way too fast without actually considering the ramifications of doing so. China and other countries are essentially doing a nasty surveillance and likely cyber-crime related stuff true, but with their own economic system powering it (despite them losing money on AI).

I feel very much like a Luddite in many respects about technology; I can't see anything good about the current state of so called AI (really gassed up LLMs), it's causing too much damage and that our political systems cannot fully restrain because politicians aren't able to keep up with or are being bought by the technofascist elite. I think that I will never see anything positive about the tech, even if they do clean it up. As...The ability to exploit, manipulate, generate so much nastiness within a short span of time is disturbing.

Unfortunately, there are also a lot of projects that do indeed have some elements of vibe-coding/or LLM-assisted programming. The Linux Kernel itself is being tinkered with using LLMs, that spreads a taint to every distro by default (at least those who use the mainline kernel). Even systemd is being developed using LLMs, most distros incorporate that init system within them, so that also is another source of taint. Which is why I had been trying to install Gentoo, while they do use a slightly older kernel...Their default init system, OpenRC has a no AI commitment. I might try to find another distro that is at least a bit easier to install and without systemd so I can feel less awful about using Linux. Maybe, Chimera Linux (and eat the musl libc tax). The reason why I say taint, is because I worry about the code being generated, how it cannot be properly licensed and it will add technical debt over time. People might not be able to explain or understand that code in the future when LLMs will possibly be abandoned.

Not a good look to be honest, with Bazzite I found two instances of direct use of Copilot. Copilot Use One, ujust commit and Copilot Use Two, feat(portal). I could probably find more if I tried, but, they are clearly eager to use Copilot for things that a person can easily do. It would just be 'boring'. This is the direct distro which is built using ublue-os (the foundation of Bluefin and Aurora immutable distros too as Bazzite is directly related to both of them), fundamental parts of Bazzite being affected by LLMs (often called AI). But again, I don't use Bazzite, so no skin off my nose.

Yeah, I think kindness will go a long way towards making life easier. Just having low cortisol discussions. Like, I hope that I am not talking in a charged way in this case. I am sharing what occupies my mind on occasion. ROFL Ugh, it is a strange time to be alive.

You really think that corpo putting restrictions are gonna stop them ? China make far more efficient models than them that are open-source, it's just a matter of time before prompter use an open-source model to do it (that's if Sam didn't take their RAM). In some instances, I'm happy to see companies facing what they've been pushing for turning back to them, even if I won't be using vibecoded software (cause from experience it's not reliable and full of mistakes). I just want the AI bubble to explode and genAI companies to close the doors (except for the one that actually are useful, but their super niche and nobody know about them, plus it probably won't be what you think about).

I think the development of LLM should have been stopped long ago. This way we wouldn't have something that put humanity in danger and we could have find a use for it as its performances would be very restrictive (no be able to spy on people and need a lot of guidance to be useful while saving on ressources).

I thought that what Linus said about the use of LLM for Linux would have helped to keep away this kind of thing.

I have no idea what those use are about. I'm not a tech nerd, the best I do is HTML. I just hope they won't be using LLM to make future updates and develop the system. I still need it to be reliable and not cause issues on my hardware (compared to my previous experience with Arch lol).

It's hard to tell with text, which can be both be a good and bad thing. I try to understand text with the least amount of emotion as I don't want to think wether the person that sent the message was sangry or not. So far it has worked well, but sometime it needs a lot of energy and effort to read objectively. Also, it always has been a strange time to be alive.

  • While Corpos are pretty desperate for LLMs, putting enough roadblocks, costs, and other barriers in place will deter them. The profit seeking fools will chase a new god to bring them everlasting wealth, as they always have. Eh, China also makes unsafe models and ones that lie about confirmed points in history that China doesn't like to acknowledge because it goes against their narratives. Propaganda through tech, but to the LLM lovers, their models are efficient and do run on lower spec machines easier. The bubble will burst because they can't sustain the momentum and financial investment that they've poured into this. It isn't making them money, it costs them money. NVIDIA is the only one who has actually made any profit out of this, because they sell the hardware needed for Data Centers. NVIDIA then invests in the ChudAI companies to keep them floating just above the disaster line. However, the parasites are panicking because not enough people are paying the prices needed to keep this whole sham afloat. They are hemorrhaging capital at a rate which makes investors wary.

Yeah, I think LLMs should've been used for their original purpose: The processing of language, understanding how it is used, etc. The current usage that the corpos are using it for are...Disturbing and honestly aren't going to help humanity overall, its just a big grift and that makes me sad. They are trying to find a way to channel skill into their hands and deprive the skill of wealth, it's become a Torment Nexus of disenfranchisement, spying, misinformation, disinformation all in one. A very useful thing for those with ill intentions, malicious actors immediately leapt upon those things and wreak havoc with gassed up LLMs.

Linus, was naturally wrong, I think he is probably in the early stages of AI induced psychosis...It hasn't reduced his ability and technical skill yet. But I fear it will in time, the more he trusts gassed up LLM outputs. It already shows with his mandates for Kernel Development, it is open season for technofascists behind AI.

Personally, I am more of a troubleshooter, that does have a kind of ability with figuring stuff out (reading documentation + reading the error messages) who is also learning Python, I will learn C as well. I have been using Garuda Linux (Arch-based, BTW) it's pretty solid and wonderful, save for the bane of systemd. I can't say that it isn't problem free for me, as I have a lot of small but resolvable issues (often taking no more than an hour of reading and a few minutes of pinpointing and implementing the fix). However, immutable distros are fairly solid too, it is just a shame that Bazzite got compromised as well. But, it is what it is. As long as it doesn't completely become a vibe-coded mess like Bluefin is transitioning into, you'll probably be fine for the time being. For me, I love them because there were ways of doing the same things you could on regular distros, so it was as if you were just using a regular distro (but you aren't). I think from a security perspective, they are really good. But the container dependencies need to be unslopped before I decide to install one again, because I don't want to have any AI touched thing on my computer.

HTML is nerd sphere stuff, so you can't sell yourself short, it's just human readable like Python is (which Python can easily integrate with HTML for web stuff).

Yeah, when I am typing rarely do I actually feel pressed or angry, I am just trying to state my opinions in a way that someone else can understand. Thinking with clarity and peace is honestly helpful to this end.
