Slightly larger, but orders of magnitude more capable, and often power sippy. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 3 child comments replies: [–] rekabis@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 day ago* (last edited 20 hours ago) (2 children) They still make use of desktop CPUs that can pull 120W and up to 250W under heavy loads. So light on power? Maybe. But power sippy? Not against an M4 Mac, which can be as little as ⅙ as much under a similarly heavy load. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] Jason2357@lemmy.ca 1 point 1 day ago (1 child) Take a zero off there, bud. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 1 child comment replies: [–] rekabis@lemmy.ca 1 point 20 hours ago Take a zero off there, bud. Base power draw of a current i7 14700K under load is typically around 120/125W. Full power draw in maximum turbo mode (PL2) is 250W. Ignorance doesn’t survive long in the face of manufacturer specifications. permalink fedilink source parent [–] Equinox1289@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 days ago Or a mini pc. 16GB RAM, 500GB NVME ~$300. permalink fedilink source parent [–] DFX4509B@lemmy.wtf 2 points 2 days ago (1 child) Good luck when that market gets squeezed too. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 1 child comment replies: [–] PalmTreeIsBestTree@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago Good thing there is so much old crap out there permalink fedilink source parent [–] NovaVeles@lemmy.world 1 point 2 days ago* For a while there, second hand mini desktops like the Lenovo/Optiplex's could be picked up for about half the price of a new Pi5. Typically had equal RAM, loads of SSD storage and desktop class(ish) CPU perfomance, plus all the other benefits (Secureboot, x86 compatibility so you could run Windows if you wished). Only major thing missing was the GPIO connection. But looking now the prices are increasing rapidly as they have been discovered. The cheap ones are typically striped of RAM and storage. permalink fedilink source parent [–] Anon7394@sh.itjust.works 1 point 2 days ago (4 children) Power consumption. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 4 child comments replies: [–] elucubra@sopuli.xyz 3 points 2 days ago A Lenovo tiny use something like 4 w idle to 40w peak. permalink fedilink source parent [–] 0x0@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago Electricity is green. permalink fedilink source parent [–] Jason2357@lemmy.ca 1 point 1 day ago There are N100 and related SBCs that get close or match them, and if you REALLY need low power - running off a small battery or solar or something like that - you probably dont want anything with 16gb of ram. permalink fedilink source parent [–] fruitycoder@sh.itjust.works 1 point 1 day ago Honestly this is a sad point.
