[–] thenextguy@lemmy.world 109 points 2 days ago (11 children) This is for 16GB. 1G is $45, 2G is $77. My 1G pi three is still working fine. permalink fedilink source hideshow 11 child comments replies: [–] ramble81@lemmy.zip 25 points 2 days ago (6 children) Okay that’s good to know. Honestly I always considered a Pi a single use, light weight device that just happens to run common ARM64. When they went for 8/16GB of RAM it felt like they were trying to turn them into mini general purpose computers. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 6 child comments replies: [–] Infinite@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 days ago (4 children) I have two running several containers each, and another running a full Linux distro with desktop and browser for a family chrome board. If they have a little RAM they do great. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 4 child comments replies: [–] kbobabob@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 point 1 day ago (3 children) Why not get something like a Beelink mini PC at this price? At least that gets you a Ryzen 5 cpu. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 3 child comments replies: [–] Infinite@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago I wouldn't pay the current top-end price for a Pi. A mini is a better value now, for sure. Just sharing that the "general purpose" use isn't a stretch or unreasonable. permalink fedilink source parent [–] nilloc@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 1 day ago (1 child) How does the power use compare? Just curious, since my pi is almost always on. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 1 child comment replies: [–] kbobabob@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 point 19 hours ago It probably depends what you have running on it. Mine is basically just a Plex server. I never checked power usage. permalink fedilink source parent [–] bhhaskin@lemmy.bitsofsimplicity.com 2 points 1 day ago I have an 8 node pi cluster that hosts a bunch of different things. They are pretty great. permalink fedilink source parent [–] Allero@lemmy.today 6 points 2 days ago In other words, 1G of RAM accounts for 32$? permalink fedilink source parent [–] UnityDevice@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 days ago Title is kinda misleading then. The comments prove it. permalink fedilink source parent [–] rainbow_trout@piefed.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 day ago No RPI is supposed to cost me a gill or a fin though. permalink fedilink source parent [–] Fmstrat@lemmy.world 1 point 1 day ago* I bought a 16G for a project shortly after they came out on sale at Microcenter. It's sitting in a closet right now, and it makes me feel bad that it's not in use. I have Pi3Bs deployed everywhere, but no need for this monstrosity. Today. permalink fedilink source parent
