People who don't actually care about truthfullness are great liars because they feel no guilt about lying and have no tells at all when doing it that other people might subconscioulsy spot, since their bodies are reacting the same no matter what they're saying, true or false. A lot of people in positions were lying is a common tool (such as politicians) have to train themselves to be able to lie without tells, but it comes naturally to Sociopaths, Psychopaths and Narcissists. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] SeeMarkFly@lemmy.ml 1 point 2 days ago (1 child) People like Elon lie to further their business. Elon doesn't think of it as a lie, he uses words to get what he wants. That's just good business. Notice that the bigger the business, the easier the lies. Could it just be the love of money? What they say being a lie or not is only for them relevant if lying now would later negativelly impact them (for example, because certain people won't trust them). I think that what both Trump and Elon have figured out is that some people just think lies are normal and "everybody does it" so they don't really lose the trust of those because there wasn't any to begin with, true believers can be told whatever and they'll never stop believing and losing the trust of some of those of the rest who aren't super rich as them doesn't make much difference. As far as I can tell that's pretty much the general rule for why and when people lie. The difference between the likes of Elon and Trump and normal people is that normal people naturally feel guilt and disconfort when trying to deceive others and, unless they've trained themselves to stop that, that's reflected in their body language when they do so, thus other people might subconsciously detect it and feel that they're not to be trusted, whilst people like Trump and Elon can tell a lie looking you in the eye and look the same as if they were telling you that "the sky is blue". permalink fedilink source parent [–] tempest@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 days ago (1 child) Sometimes yes, sometimes no. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 1 child comment replies: [–] SeeMarkFly@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) When he's off his meds or when the diaper is full? permalink fedilink source parent
