grue comments on Car used in Star Trek (2009) - 1965 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray (C2)

I kinda hate the 2009 movie, and the notion that Kirk would destroy an antique like that is part of why.

It's heavily implied if not outright stated (it's been a while since I've seen it) that it belongs to his stepdad. He's in full teenage rebellion.

I watched it after posting that comment. Yes, it was his stepdad's car, and no, he was a preteen at the oldest. But even as a kid I refuse to believe that it's in real Kirk's (i.e. Kirk Prime's) character to behave like that and I reject it for Kelvin-Kirk as well.

George died saving hundreds of lives including his wife and son's. This version of James T. grew up knowing his dad was a hero but with the pain of never meeting him. Every man his mother dated would have never been able to compare. The man who became his stepdad would have had no chance to live up to the legend that is George Kirk in James' mind. To him it's not a symbol of a bygone era, it's something that his stepdad cares for. So, it must go. That's literally what drives his character arc in the first movie.

Okay, but he would've found a smarter and less wantonly destructive way to get back at him.

I mean, sure, the scene is fine for some random protagonist. But this is (supposed to be) Star Trek and Kirk, damn it, and for him it's just plain wrong!

But thanks so much for trying to treksplain Trek to a trekkie while downvoting as if I'm not entitled to my opinion.
