Its actually about biological maturity. Your brain is literaly not complete before that.

I can back this up with scientific sources:

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC3621648/

https://sites.duke.edu/apep/module-3-alcohol-cell-suicide-and-the-adolescent-brain/science-content/brain-maturation-is-complete-at-about-24-years-of-age/

“the brain rewires itself from the onset of puberty up until 24 years old, especially in the prefrontal cortex.”

“It is well established that the brain undergoes a “rewiring” process that is not complete until approximately 25 years of age. This discovery has enhanced our basic understanding regarding adolescent brain maturation and it has provided support for behaviors experienced in late adolescence and early adulthood. Several investigators consider the age span 10–24 years as adolescence”

Speaking from personal experience, i actually felt this. Its similar to the memory of suddenly “waking up to a compleye theory of mind” at around 5yo which many people have. Like the parts of my brain that were otherwise occupied in the background becoming fully accessible to me.

There might be some truth to what you say if you look at evolution. Cause it does seem like the phase maturity keeps getting longer, but its not something an insividual family can fight within a few generations.

i don't get what this has to do with anything. your bone marrow doesn't stop producing new blood cells for 90 years. does that mean that you can't use your body before you're 90? because your bone marrow is still not done producing all these red blood cells ...

Surely you understand that there is a difference between the production red blood cells, which are the same at birth and elder age. Versus: The development of the prefrontal cortex which is responsible for processing and adapting one's thinking in order to focus, control how you behave, and make (smart) decisions.

Which almost all drugs directly interact with.

Puberty is where your brain learns to find its baselines, to discover who you are. Using drugs from a young age impacts who you might become.

Now the difference between 18 and 24 isn’t going to be that big and amounts matter. 1 joint at 15 isnt going to harm you more then then alcohol at the same age. But if your baseline is to be impaired all day, thats going to have an impact.
