Who was hating on Africa? permalink fedilink source hideshow 5 child comments replies: [–] Confidant6198@lemmy.ml [S] 3 points 5 days ago (4 children) Malcolm X was speaking directly about African Americans who harbored hatred or disdain toward Africa and African people. In the speech, he explicitly uses the collective "we" to address his Black American audience, explaining how centuries of systemic racism and colonial propaganda had caused them to internalize a hatred of their own origins. Malcolm X was diagnosing a specific trauma within the Black American community. He explained that because colonial powers had projected Africa in a negative light for centuries (as "jungle savages, cannibals, nothing civilized"), Black Americans began to hate it. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 4 child comments replies: [–] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 1 point 5 days ago* (3 children) Damn, In all my time studying african American history in Uni I somehow didn't find out about his. Do you have any resources on anti-african bigotry from african american communities? I'm gonna do some research obviously but if you have any I'd love to have them linked ❤️ Edit: I was aware there existed a cultural disconnect betwern African Americans and Africans but I didn't realize their was bigotry involved. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 3 child comments replies: [–] Confidant6198@lemmy.ml [S] 4 points 5 days ago* (2 children) https://blackstarnews.com/malcolm-x-you-cant-hate-the-roots-of-a-tree-without-hating-the/#content https://youtu.be/Gb-tjIUu0i4 permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 2 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) You got me listening to the full ballot or the bullet speech and honestly its so good.
