For instance, in Australia, Tim Tams are always a treat, while you either really love or hate Vegemite. In Hong Kong, I can't really think of a divisive food, since almost all of it is 10/10 amazing!

Divisive in HK: Durian or fermented tofu.

I once brought home durian ice cream from the asian market and it smelled so strongly that my wife wouldn't let me put it in the freezer with the rest of the food

Tasted pretty good though, but it really did smell like feet. I thought that was just a meme until I tried it

is it really that bad? i tried it like once in thailand and it didn't smell bad at all. maybe because it was fresh?

I'm a durian lover, so I'm probably the wrong person to ask. But the smell is unmistakable, and almost universally polarising. The better quality — variety, not just freshness — the durian, the stronger the smell. Did you not smell it, or did you just not mind the smell?

That's quite possible, if you had an unripe or just crappy quality one. How did it taste?

i don't have any special memory about it other than it not being special (as in smell etc..)

i actually don't really like fruits generally, i just tried it since i was on a trip. guess i should try once more if i get the chance.
