Ontario’s deficit has grown by more than $3 billion in the past few months as the province continues to face economic headwinds blowing up from the U.S.

In an economic update delivered on Thursday, the Ford government said the deficit for 2026-27 is now projected to be $16.9 billion, up from the $13.8 billion that was projected in the budget tabled back in March.

I mean, he's a politician. I assumed that was a given.

We shouldn't really accept thos as standard from our politicians, and saying this about Ford is suggesting that he's run-of-the-mill.

Ford is probably the worst thing to happen to Ontario in many years, if not decades.

And yet he's absolutely run of the mill now.

Who was the last politician you remember that was actually interested in making our lives better?

Nationally? Avi Lewis seems to be genuinely interested in making our lives better. Provincially, Mike Schreiner in Ontario and Emily Lowan in BC both seem want to improve things. But they are very much in the minority.

Avi hasn't accomplished anything yet. Likely he never will based on our historical voting.

He seems like he's for the people sure, but the other NDP leaders aren't in line with him. Look at Eby fucking themselves or the strike breaking in Manitoba (pretty sure it's Manitoba) not even a day after the strike started.

Avi might accomplish something good, maybe, but he's got a LOT of work to do to get the rest of his party in line with him to accomplish anything at all.

NDP is bifuricated between labor reps and people wanting to add more letters to LGBTQ+, and surprisingly, the voters don't care.

I hope they always keep their love and support for all the letters. They could do it a little better tbh. That poor gay indigenous kid out there should have someone in power giving a fuck about him. God knows Conservatives never will.

They also gotta remember all the other issues as well. They need to highlight the issues of the workers instead of letting christian nationalists pull them into culture wars.

This country even elected an evangelical christian prime minister who was forced to swear never to touch abortion and marriage equality. Is there room for improvement? Sure. Majority of the country is overall better than it used to be. For now, cost of living and housing has to be their focus otherwise they are not winning and forming government any time soon.

Everyone says that about the guy or girl who gets in if they didn't vote for them. How many people said that about Wynne? McGuinty? Eves/Harris? Rae? That doesn't actually say anything.

I'm not sure what the best objective metric is of assessing corruption, but I bet if we plotted Ford and family's net worth vs. the Ontario deficit, we'd find something unpleasant.

Also, I didn't vote for Wynne and I don't think I voted for McGuinty. And I didn't think that they were the most corrupt when they were in power, either.

McGuinty set the stage for major problems in Ontario, From the green belt, auto insurance and foreign students.

I would say that setting the stage is objectively less corrupt than taking to the stage and acting on it.

It's a progression. Wynne was worse than McGuinty, Ford's worse than Wynne, the next one will be worse than Ford. And someone will come along and say the same thing about them that you're saying about Ford, which is the same thing that was said about Wynne, McGuinty, Harris, etc.
