I've seen plenty of conservatives say they'd rather have a loud data center than quiet solar farm near their home.

I don't understand.

It's cognitive dissonance of reality not aligning with the propaganda that indoctrinated them. They will never like it because words like clean, renewable and green are evil incarnate but they cannot give a proper logical explanation.

Well the solar farm uses tons of water and power, causing shortages and high prices, creates a giant eyesore of a building that will be worse than a dead mall when the bubble pops, and generates a crapload of noise and pollution. …… oh wait, that’s not solar

Possibly because the main data center companies are US held, while solar progress is much more international. Conservatives don't see the world as "emissions vs technical progress", but rather as "us vs foreign aliens".

I have read the inverter and related cooling equipment of the solar system can be noisy if poorly implemented or maintained, though I doubt it would rival the downsides of a data center.

Even if both made the same amount of noise and/or occupied the same amount of space, a Solar Farm is better because it produces energy. A Data Center consumes energy (not to mention the energy is also being spent unethically.)
