The Fediverse is easily manipulable by bots. You can't have democracy with an unknown percentage of bots voting.

Examples:

  • This anti-AI post initially got suppressed by 17 downvotes, hiding it from many people's feeds.

  • This post trying to plan the future of AGI got more downvotes than upvotes (when I view it on piefed.social - Beehaw has deferated from where the downvotes came from). Do people on Lemmy really think this timely, important topic should be suppressed from other people's feeds, or was it big tech bots pre-empting budding attempts on alternative paths threatening their dominance? USA DoW has an office for pre-emptive technological sabotage: https://www.politico.com/news/2026/10/22/technology-support-office-dod-tech-spyware-sabotage-01100327

  • My post about U.S. surveillance-enabled manipulation got 6 downvotes early on. None of the comments addressed the main question in my post. Commenters and downvoters of my comments are complaining about my writing in my second language, accusing me of using AI to write the post, which I didn't. Even Pangram AI-detector says all of my text is human-written, and finds only two direct quotes from a different website AI-generated.

I’m sorry to hear those posts weren’t as popular as many of us would liked.

Just to understand the situation better, how do you know the initial votes were negative? I know Lemmy isn’t private, but I wouldn’t know how to check votes and timestamps.

For what it’s worth, if bots are trying to suppress AI criticism, they’re doing an awful job with my feed. My experience with Lemmy is one where the costs and risks of AI are front and center in almost any conversation.

I wonder if my admins are being proactive against the bots. Or whether the bots are more active in some posts than other posts.
