All of the comments in this thread are why I have automated feeders.

Now I do not get woken up at 5am to the sound of crying that will continue for hours until food is served.

    Same, especially because all the cats I've ever had have been unable to limit their feedings and get too fat if I free feed. The ones I have are hooked up to remotely switchable plugs that I automate with Home Assistant. Makes it easy to dial is food changes for my little void who is a growing pile of chaos.
