What's the font? The curly f and the stub m suggests 0xProto.. but that's just my guess.

Edit: and gosh I just wish I had some time between work and hobbies.. but I am happy with Endeavour KDE. Although I did try to get into Niri twice already.

Pure Devuan's where I ran to, when life got brutally hard and I needed to simplify with something dependable. Did not disappoint. Old faithful.

Even when now back to running complicated multi-distro systems, I still make sure Devuan's one of the cornerstones.

    Glad

:D Glad I took that snapshot in time.

    Psychic

Perhaps some psychic foresight, that I took the odd move of sharing a screenshot and doing a little show-and-tell, just before I broke my system enough it needed[1] a complete reinstall. XD

    Doofus

How did I do that?? Maybe not even a week later than making this post, I was toying around with making a crunchbang-inspired gentoo-based distro, (which I call TooBox (which I still have the llm chats around and code for (somewhere), and shall return to)), and was enthralled by the hot churn of debugging and improvements, expedited past the tedious mundane bits of wrestling syntax, I accidentally slipped into a similar pacing, around my portions of the testings, and, oops, too fast, and upon the next [which became final] test of it, I neglected to disable (and/or remove or rename) the stratum before the cp... :3 Yep. Do not do that. Do not copy a rootfs to an enabled stratum. [1:] More mess made across my system than I was willing to tidy up. [/]

    Extra doofus XD

[... Oh, and then, for extra fun, when I was making sure I was getting together all the things I wanted to backup before the reinstall, I first moved all those things to a local dir I was going to then move in one go across ssh to my backups external hd attached to my other thinkpad... and then, yup, forgot to move that dir before wiping.].

It's all good though... All's well that ends well...

Got things back to how they should be. Better than the lingering not-as-it-should-be from before. Like now I'm back on my tabularboonad config of xmonad running in wminizer along with dwm and herbstluftwm, instead of lazily letting myself linger in XFCE like before.

Ahhhh. Geek peace achieved. For whatever else is going on in the world, I've at least managed to recover from a horrible situation to back to better than before, on my computer.

    PS

No more arch/artix based strata on my system. Was only using them for the AUR. And now [after recent malware attacks] I realise I'm not responsible enough to use the AUR correctly. ;) ... and yet... been more leaning to notions of ... well, like this recent example:

[2026-07-23 08:46:45] tempted to do a statically linked distros bedrock... things like stali, tincan, carbs, crux, oasis, rlsd, etc.

XD Glutton for punishment after all? LOL.

It's pretty great. No different to Debian, aside from the absence of systemd. OpenRC is fantastic.

Installation was a little tricky. The netinstall ISO is the only one that worked for me, and it didn't seem to like Ventoy. Other than that, though, it was smooth sailing.

I'd advise against choosing runit as your init system, however. Unlike the other two options, it doesn't use /etc/init.d, so some third-party software (e.g. IVPN) throws errors when it tries to install a daemon.

As far as breaking goes, well, I'll have to wait and see how this system fares. My other Devuan box seems to be holding up just fine though, so I suspect the reports of breakage may have to do with people making Frankendevuans (mixing systemd and non-systemd repos) or Frankendebians (adding non-Debian repos, such as PPAs).

You can create fairly complex parts. Hell, I designed the 3D-printed glasses I wear and accessories in FreeCAD 🙂

What it's really not terribly good at is assemblies. If you need assemblies and simulating moving several parts together seamlessly, look elsewhere.

Another CAD solution you may want to look at is OpenSCAD: it's really nice if you like the programmer approach - i.e. you design the part by typing the parametric sequence to create it in a text file. It's great for parts that need to be configured with parameters. But it's all kinds of awful for anything curvy, and it doesn't do assemblies.

I used SolidWorks professionally in 2008. FreeCAD in 2026 is nowhere near as good as SolidWorks was in 2008. But for what I use it for today, it's plenty good enough. And it has three things SolidWorks doesn't have:

    • It's free as in libre
    • It's free as in beer
    • It's not a fucking cloud app

That makes putting up with FreeCAD's idiosyncrasies totally worth it to me.

Looks like I'm gonna need to burn a windows 7 iso to grab the feature, it's not on 8+ according to the linked doc. I'll try to manually install it when I get my HT cpu installed in a few weeks. I do unfortunately need windows 10 on this device if it's gonna run windows at all, its at the literal furthest point from my router in my home that it can be so it needs wifi, and the only wifi card I have is an AX200 which only supports win10/11 and *nix..... I wonder if I could install the driver with Subsystem for Unix...
