Also in the context of Texas there is hate for Paxton. He was impeach by his own party for corruption and other Republicans were actually stumping against him. And a lot of people are pissed at Abbott for the school vouchers, and Patrick for taking away what legal access to weed we had. Once you had Republicans breaking for Talarico that opened the door for them to consider going whole ticket.

I suspect it's that but also Americans desperate for change. Which is also what helped got Trump elected in the first place as ironic as that is. That sentiment though, that "everything is broken and the system doesn't work" sentiment is driving a ton of votes from every direction.

Democrats ran someone in every seat, creating a “reverse coattail” effect to get the word out about the whole ticket, even in districts where local candidates were sure to get walloped. They made significant investments in voter turnout, especially in purple counties. And they went all in behind the ticket they had, even if it was not the star-studded list they’d originally imagined.

I found this part interesting because that's not what my ballot showed. There was about three or four races where it was just a republican running unopposed. Would have liked to have seen even a token Democrat in those races cuz it might have paid off.

In fact this proves that Democrats should absolutely not abandon trans people. They didn't win this by a razor-thin margin. They didn't win this by snatching a couple of Republican bigots by turning on trans people. They won this as a complete repudiation of the Republican ideals. So we can't let them pretend like that was a winning strategy.

So even though there was a horde of neolibs on Lemmy advocating stripping minorities of their rights were know that they were dead fucking wrong.
