The moss thing was shocking.

Tom's final words, about how far future archaeologists might interpret today's treatment of Stonehenge, gave me literal chills. Really wonderful to think of.

But yeah, I definitely don't think it's a show that could have an enormous amount of staying power.

But then, I wouldn't have thought WILTY would have anywhere near the staying power it's had...and maybe it shouldn't have had.

Still, the problem with Abolish wasn't that it got stale. It hasn't even had the chance to get stale yet. It was the inclusion of some clear attempts at comedy that just fell completely flat, from a couple of the contestants but especially from the panel. The extent to which bad attempts at comedy took away from the show's conceit really ruined it for me. Add in the double-whammy that several contestants I thought were a clear last place ended up winning their episode and it just left a sour taste in my mouth. If that happens once or twice you can put it down to bad luck or mild differences in taste. When it's as frequent as it is, it's just a sign that you and the show's live audience are on such a completely different wavelength that you are clearly not the intended digital audience.

Jet Lag (including "season 0", Crime Spree). The Getaway, their traitor-style show where it's revealed to the audience but not the contestants that everyone is a traitor. Abolish Everything. The Scav.

A reminder that freedom fighters have always been labelled terrorists by their oppressors, regardless of the cause for which they fight.

Maybe, though ironically one thing AI is likely to result in according to this video is over-medicalisation, a serious problem that is today more likely to afflict wealthy people who can afford doctors that are more likely to practise "defensive medicine" and get extraneous tests run to cover their arse and to put the patient at ease.

I would say the competitors are less annoying than you'd get in standard US reality TV, but to be honest I just didn't find the show all that engaging. Which is a shame, because that makes 0 from 2 for successful non–Jet Lag game/reality shows from the Wendover team. And considering how damn good Jet Lag is, I'm a little surprised.

quick edit: actually, that's 0 from 3...I forgot about Abolish Everything, which I also didn't enjoy in practice nearly as much as I thought I would in theory...especially with how often what to me seemed a clearly worse presentation ended up winning.

Is it any good? The idea sounds ok but so far hasn't been enough to overcome my fear of ending up watching a load of very USAian students if they're anything like as annoying as shown in other TV shows.

I had a dream last night I was in Jet Lag in Japanorama, and I kept falling behind and couldn't keep up on the trains with them until Ichinoseki when I caught up and told them about the 6.8 earthquake we experienced at the tallest hotel in Ichinoseki, and then another much bigger earthquake happened and I woke up.

It's really amazing that Adam and Tom had this very long plan for an entire day up to exactly the sunset, requiring so many train connections, and it all worked out. Every single train was incredibly reliable.

Also, Sam feeding Ben a toxic Gingko nut is an absolutely iconic moment.

I was feeling it only two episodes in, but I say with confidence now that this season is an all-timer. The narratives are really good, we get to see cool places, and the game design is appealing to virtually play along with.

Shout out to the Nebula subtitles team. I was watching on the train into work this morning and even with noise cancelling headphones it's a bit too much background noise to clearly understand what's being said. Turned on the subtitles worried it wouldn't work at all or wouldn't be good quality. But nope. Absolutely top-notch. When it was split-screen showing two competitors over the left and B-roll on the right, the subtitles shift over to the left. Two people speaking in the same scene show up in different colours. Just great attention to detail.

I think I'd recommend Tag Eur It 2 as better, but it's probably funnier if you watched the first one first. There's not been a really bad season yet, but the tags, races, claiming games & hide&seek all have different feels and it took a few goes to get most of them balanced.
