I think Beijing should still be embarrassed by their own state-owned TV documentary as "It identifies Wa territory under the United Wa State Army (UWSA) as the incubator for northern Myanmar’s scam economy". It is well known that UWSA are Chinese-backed Chinese-armed militia, formed after break up of the Chinese-created Communist Party of Burma.

more inter ethnic territorial fighting in Burma. This is why the Chinese are supporting the Junta. They don't want to deal with this shit while they carry out their agenda in Burma.

This passage by the article is FALSE: "But Asia’s superpower wasn’t going to be embarrassed by an upstart tyrant on its impoverished periphery, especially when junta-connected scammers were brazenly fleecing millions of Chinese citizens. So Beijing began arming the rebels."

China had been arming rebels for decades. The ethnic armed organizations (EAO) who are under the influence of Beijing are fragments of the Communist Party of Burma created by Beijing that broke up in 1989 along ethnic lines.

Myanmar gets none of the press coverage of Gaza or Ukraine but the atrocities committed by the junta are some of the most heinous I've ever seen. Min Aung Hlaing should never be allowed a seat at the table.

Thais have an interest in this zone. Its original purpose was to create an industrial export zone relatively close to Bangkok that would by-pass the clogged Singapore Straits and deploy cheap and readily available Myanmar labour. It would also create an incentive for Chinese to build a trade corridor to Indian Ocean from southern China through Thailand much the same way the Chinese have been trying to do from Yunnan to Arakan for close to 2 decades but with much difficulty. However, Thais now have a competing project in the Southern Economic Corridor which began after Thai frustration with the failure of Dawei port project.

This guy poses no threat to Chinese national interests. He is more of a concern to the Burmese military regime. China is doing Min Aung Hlaing favors here.

yes. the current junta chief is a ruthless bastard. He was shooting protesters in the head in 2021. Their organs were found harvested when relatives go to pick up their bodies. Going into villages killing a lot of folks and razing their homes. They're not calling this genocide because he's doing this against his own ethnicity and the world is not paying attention because it's just little brown buddhists being killed. It's sad.

This is the problem with ethnic armed forces. The armies aren't built through voluntary but through forced conscription of young men whose families are under threat of harassment or worse should they escape forced conscription.

If you were able to visit there during Suu Kyi's time, you saw Burma at its most magical and energetic best in the last 5 decades. It's not going to go back there anytime soon. Military saw their mistake from holding a free and fair elections and they ain't going to be naive again.
