Bit late to the game, but really had to say this.

I was on board with the Nolan redemption this season, up until this episode.

Nolan killed thousands of people. Levelled a city. Called Debbie his pet. Left the planet and had a child with another woman, then dumped the child with her to raise.

Debbie owes Nolan nothing, and the scene of him telling her off for not forgiving him is just SO abusive. In that scene, Nolan was being a manipulative asshole. If he was really remorseful, Debbie’s forgiveness would be on her terms. Instead he continues to put himself in her way, figuratively and literally, and tells her that she will forgive him because he knows best.

Having experienced coercive control in relationships, I lost any respect that Nolan had clawed back this season. Cecil is right, Earth is not Nolan’s therapy couch.

Rest of the episode was really hard to watch after that scene. Nolan kept acting like an indignant child because people on Earth didn’t appreciate that he looks sad sometimes when he thinks about all the murders he did.

But the show is already pushing Debbie back into the arms of her abuser (again literally when she goes to the ship). They already split her up from Paul off screen, who then insinuates that she belongs in Nolan’s world. And I’m sure his inevitable noble sacrifice at the conclusion will make a hero of the abuser who demanded forgiveness from his victims to the bitter end. Disgusting.

Excellent season. Every season has been my favorite and this continues the trend.

The Viltrumite War we've been building to since the beginning has excellent payoff. The ending, or at least current pause, is an cruel way to end it. Definitely not something I saw coming.

To address "Hurm", I really enjoyed that episode. In the greater context of the Viltrumite War it doesn't fit, but it fits well in the adventures Mark is getting up to before the war. It also, in hindsight, teased the destruction of Viltrum. They say that they're at the center of the Earth but trying to just fly home would kill Mark. So you can't just fly through a planet. But magic gun and three Viltrumites? Boom.

I'm bummed that Robot and Monster Girl are unresolved and stuck in the Flaxxan universe. But as a bonus Mark has been gone for 10 months I think? So if they come back the first episode of next season they'll have been gone for A LOOOOOONG TIME, and Robot will be fully Rex aged and Monster Girl, Monster Woman. And waiting a year until next season it's going to feel like they've been gone forever.

I don't think Nolan is selfish in wanting forgiveness. Wanting forgiveness is a natural thing. Look at Mark and how he treats Nolan. I can't say Mark has forgiven him completely, but he defends Nolan from time to time.

I expect part of next season will involve Debbie and him getting along better. As Nolan said, Debbie wants to forgive, to give him a second chance.

Cecil? He's pragmatic. He doesn't have to forgive.

Earth? I don't know. Especially if the Thragg plan becomes public.

There was almost no action but only dialogues and drama and it was glorious 50 minutes. They nailed Mark's PTSD, and opening scene was much more fleshed out and probable therefore more impactful than in comics. Thragg's appearance has also vastly benefited from all those additional scenes. Mark's choice cements him as a full blooded person, rather than just another god superhero.

All Nolan's scenes were great. He has clearly changed and regrets his choices, but also still selfishly wants forgiveness. He seems not to grasp how much death and suffering has he caused among common people, but at least he is on a good path.

I thought Oliver was dead. I knew Thadeus was going down but not like that. I thought Nolan was going to have his head ripped off after that guts punch. Seeing them all alive started to take away the tension... Until Mark realized where they're going.

But also... If they're too few already, are they about to try and create a bunch of babies on Earth? Earth is New Viltrum?

(Also Eve? Also everybody trapped in the other dimension? Also Egyptian god character?)

Purge is rated E for Everyone.

That was the strongest punch in history of the universe. Also Viltrum explosion was greatly improved in the show, that's where budget went to, instead of for example generic heroes assembly scene.

Anyone else feel like the fight scenes in this episode were really underwhelming?

Like I was hyped to see Battlebeast vs a Viltrumite again, or Nolan vs Kregg, but we barely saw anything. Felt more like a montage than a proper fight scene

tl;dr: Shoulda just sequenced all the dead Viltrumites' genomes to bypass that bottleneck.

Genetics nerd here. Maximixing genomic diversity is indeed the only way to maximize fitness for a species. But just because billions upon billions of your species dies doesn't mean their info dies. Viltrumites (at least) have DNA-like genetic code meaning they have up to a max of a million years to sequence all that diversity.

If they have any familiarity with bioengineering they could either do in vitro fertilizations of the dead's gametes and implanting them en masse in surviving surrogates or just record all sequences in a massive database. Even mildly smart humans' ability to sequence and synthesize DNA is growing faster than Moore's Law. Over evolutionary time this might even lead to higher fecundity (cf: twins, triplets, etc) making Viltrumites stronger via a new dimension.

The only way around this plothole of their societal fear of an inevitable inbreeding bottleneck for me is if their entire society has specialized in only combat and have completely neglected science. Which could be possible but makes the world less realistic for me. While they could surely conquer a more brainy species to do their bioengineering for them, maybe they'd consider that a significant breach of privacy (e.g. the brainy species could create their own army of Viltrumites with an ideology beneficial to themselves).

Mark (and Oliver) are lucky their beards are nerfed. Otherwise they'd have to learn the Toolock pull, which can't be a comfy maneuver.

Also Nolan can't be too surprised by Olivier. He too is a fan of bugs🪲❤️.

Mark's beard was nerfed in the show, probably because he has recovered faster than in the comics, or it's just because he's asian now.

It was specified that Oliver not only found lobster beautiful, but he also got hard, because of it. Cool I guess 🦞❤️. Nolan's reaction was priceless :D.
