Not really emulation related, but I think it’s still a preservation work.

Hi everyone!

I'm using Retrodeck on my Steam Deck and I'm now in the process of getting copies of all my ps3 games, after doing the same with all my ps1, ps2 and dreamcast games.

I've managed to download around 10 unencrypted games on https://romsfun.com/ and they can be launched on rpcs3. For the 10 games that I have left, the problem is that the download is always failing after a while (If someone knows how to avoid this, I’m listening).

So, after spending hours trying different websites for roms which were unreliable or just too slow , I found this Megathread https://r-roms.github.io/Sony/sony-playstation-3 which directs you to archive.org redump stuff.

The download are faster and reliable.

The problem is these games can't be booted from rpcs3 and they show "Booting failed: The selected file or folder is invalid or corrupted". I guess it's probably because the isos are encrypted.

People were talking about using https://github.com/13xforever/ps3-disc-dumper/releases, so I tried it without much success because I get disk access errors that I can't solve even using the command line or with connecting a disc drive.

People were also talking about https://pypi.org/project/libray/ which I managed to get working, but is too complicated for me as I don't understand how to tell it where my isos are and decrypt them.

So after trying all of these things on Steam OS, PopOS and Fedora Silverblue , I'm looking for the help of more knowledgeable people. Thanks in advance!

Edit:

Here is the solution found thanks to MML!

  1. Download PS3QDD https://github.com/ElektroStudios/PS3-Quick-Disc-Decryptor/releases/download/v1.3.2/PS3QDD.v1.3.2.with.keys.zip

  2. sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386

  3. sudo apt install wine32

  4. sudo apt udate

  5. open terminal in the folder where the game and PS3QDD are

  6. wine PS3Dec.exe d key KEY ENCRYPTED GAME NAME.iso DECRYPTED GAME NAME.iso (for instance with Uncharted: wine PS3Dec.exe d key 9253D026918378B3120CBB9F71CD67A9 uncharted.iso uncharted1.iso)

I hope one day it helps someone!

Hi everyone!

I’d want to replay my Shenmue games that I have on their original discs.

Sadly, I don’t have a Dreamcast and I don’t think I’d be able to rip them even with my bluray external drive.

So, I’ll have to download them. What would be a great place and how could I know the game hash since not all of them are compatible with retroachievements?

Thanks for your answer

EDIT: I managed to get european roms from Shenmue 1 ( https://retroachievements.org/game/3398/hashes ) and 2 ( https://retroachievements.org/game/3489/hashes ) on these 2 sites ( https://archive.org/download/RedumpSegaDreamcast20160613 and https://romsfun.com/roms/dreamcast/shenmue.html ).

Then I tried using Collision ( https://collision.geopjr.dev/ ) to check the game files but none of the MD5 hashes were the same as the ones on retroachievements.

So I have to admit that I'm a bit lost and don't know what to do just to be able to replay these lovely games while getting achievements.

Edit 2: In the end I just downloaded the games from https://archive.org/download/RedumpSegaDreamcast20160613 and https://romsfun.com/roms/dreamcast/shenmue.html and, when launching them, I got an information that I had something like 0 out 115 achievements, so I know these games work with retroachievements. Thanks!

My friend's kid has recently developed an interest in video games, but he doesn't currently have the budget to get her a console or gaming PC, so he's been asking to borrow one of my old consoles.

I was thinking instead that I might throw him together a little emulation machine, either out of a raspberry pi or a mini PC. It's probably been about 10 years since I last went down this particular rabbit hole and built myself a retropie, so I'm not too sure what the current state of things looks like, so I wanted to see what kind of hardware people would recommend these days

I remember my raspberry pi struggling to handle N64 games, not sure if that situation has improved much since then, but that has me leaning towards a mini PC, but of course PC hardware prices have gone nuts this year (not that raspberry pis are much better these days)

So just trying to figure out what the best bang for my buck would be or what specs I should be looking for in a computer. Ideally I'm hoping for him to be able to emulate everything up to about Wii/PS2/Xbox, and ideally not spend much over about $200 (plus the cost of some controllers and such for them)

Not opposed to building a PC for the purpose, I do have an older graphics card kicking around I could throw in it, I want to say it's a GTX 980 that I think should be more than enough for these needs, but no other spare hardware at the moment.

From the Emudeck discord:

@everyone Hey everyone, apologies for the ping but since this is deemed as critical to the security of people's devices here, I will have to. Cemu (The Wii U emulator) was recently compromised by a malicious attacker using a known developers account, this compromise took place from May 6th to May 12th, and introduces malware that is known to steal passwords, SSH keys, GitHub tokens, and likely more they are not fully aware of at this moment. We recommend anybody who is on Linux or SteamOS to go into the EmuDeck app, Manage Emulators tab, Cemu, and click Reinstall/Update, and make sure the hash of the AppImage (Located in Home/Applications, right click Cemu AppImage, go into Properties, Checksums, and Calculate the SHA256 hash) matches the non-compromised version provided by the Cemu developers, if you have used Cemu from the dates I have mentioned, and the SHA256 hash does not match what is listed, assume your system may be compromised if it was ran. If you are on Windows, MacOS, or used the Flatpak version, you are not affected by this malware. More information regarding this attack can be found here. https://rentry.org/cemu-security-psa

The specifically affected packages were:

Cemu-2.6-x86_64.AppImage

cemu-2.6-ubuntu-22.04-x64.zip

I'm trying to find a more convenient way to use the emulated portal feature on dolphin/cemu. Is there any way to use it without a second monitor/switching tabs?

For example say an app that connects to the emulator and displays on your phone? Honestly anything that doesn't take focus from the game window would be excellent.

Thank you for the ideas and help!

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I am on linux so I do not think something like this would work:

Also fixes some graphics in non-Unreal Engine games too. You can try it out now by compiling from source, downloading a prebuilt binary via Github actions or wait for the 0.11 release.
