Hi, for months, google maps stayed blank. I still don't know why but today in the parameters I set "enable private navigation" and service returned. Great stuff!

An introduction for normal people looking for an easy way to avoid U.S.American and Chinese software and hardware on their phones. "Easy" seems to be important to Murena, which /e/OS delivers - I dare to recommend it for beginners.

I've been using /e/OS for 1.5 years as a lazy enthusiast and hobbyist with previous experience with various Linuxes, Android, and CyanogenMod (predecessor of LineageOS). I have set up GrapheneOS once. I will probably try CalyxOS when I get around to it.

The answer is hidden from Quora's question page - I quess they hid it because the links triggered their bots to assume it's spam. A few upvotes could bring it up and maybe into people's feeds.

If the direct link is broken , try this indirect link:

Personal profile: Mostly FOSS apps.

Work profile: Sandboxed apps that depend on microG / Google and track a lot.

As a new user of a custom ROM, I'm still customizing my user interface and settings. I'm also trying to remove bloatware apps that I don't need.

Hi, I was messing with rethink dns to see what was its possibilities. then I saw this "surprise". Is this a normal behaviour ? Do we know what it does ? Does anyone has observed this on its phone ?

Edit : got an answer on eOS forum, it confirms what you guys told me :

rethink uses ipinfo lite (db-ip.com before) - their info atm says germany. it’s a hetzner ip anyway. If you trace the network path you’ll see it’s their fsn1 datacenter.

incorrect display of GeoIP data · Issue #2499 · celzero/rethink-app · GitHub

It looks like there could be a bug in how Rethink “searches” IP ranges to geo location… Rethink doesn’t use the mmdb format, but pre-processes the csv (code) to make it “searchable”.

Thank you all for your help :)

Android Auto (feddit.uk)

On e/os is there a way to connect to android auto in my car without installing google apps?

My local transit only uses Google wallet for tap to pay, but I've got about 90% of my stuff out of Google. Paypal used to install as a wallet but doesn't seem to do tap to pay. And since the latest /e/os update, can't even select it anymore. I'm not in the EU so can't use wero.

Any other options I haven't found maybe?

I have a Google Pixel 5 that I installed e/OS myself on, but I dropped it a few days ago and the touch sensor is broken in such annoying locations that I feel the need for a new phone. So, trying to be more environmentally conscious, I wanted to try a fairphone for better repairability. I know they have been offering a version with e/OS pre-installed, but I only learned today that it is 50€ more expensive.

Do any of you guys know what the benefit of letting them do it is? I guess there technically is a risk I mess it up and brick my brand new phone, but I think the risk is so small that I am willing to take it.

Hi Everybody I was thinking of installing /e/os on my Fairphone 5 but my work requires me to use Microsoft Authenticator on our personal phones in order to log into our work laptop (I know this really annoys me too). So just want to know if Authenticator works on e-os?

/e/OS on Samsung A52s (doc.e.foundation)
submitted 2 years ago by to c/e_os@lemmy.world

Hi there, would like to try eOS on my device, but I think the documentation is out of time. I did flash Lineage a couple of times before, but already struggling with the pre-install requirements as the referred vbmeta.img is not in any of the downloadable .zip

Download the /e/OS build zip file from the section marked ‘Downloads for a52sxq’. Extract the contents of the /e/OS build zip file. You will find a vbmeta.img in the extracted files.

Also I am wondering if it really needs to be a special Odin version as mentioned in the doc. I am running Linux and found Odin v4 1.2.1 ad wondering if it would work plus how it works as this is a CLI Tool.

Anyone with experience around?
