I mean different genres have different vibes, some encourage going all out like edm and goth. You never really have to. In fact it's a joke that the guy dressed like he's going to an accounting job is probably the craziest in the pit

In their defense, plain 70s attire isn't really a common style of fashion anymore* where rocker/metalhead is pretty common (even if people go all out at shows).

Sounds like this artist has encouraged 70s vintage fashion or advertised a 70s show specifically. Still doesn't make every show a costume party for hecks sake 😂, what a silly idea

    * In no way means to imply there's no one out there doing it

    Comparing two different things.

    • liking something barely anyone likes -> no one is invested enough to care.
    • disliking something everyone loves -> everyone is invested

Someone (irl) said that Metallica - St. Anger is a great album the other day and it caused a bit of a ruckus in the group (mostly "oh, that's a new sentence")

Even your complaint doesn't meet the definition of a scam. They can be wrong or imprecise without being deceptive.

But, I would go further and say you've misunderstood the activity of grading, which is signing that a given item aligns with a given rubric. In trading cards these rubrics are standardized (see TCGplayer.com grading system).

You're free to disagree with a grading, free to not trust grades by given vendors. But it's kinda silly to suggest grading as a concept is meaningless (especially if "meaning" can only exist with infinitely precision and accuracy).
