“If someone tells a tool to do something, and the tool does it, I don’t think we would say, ‘Oh, what do we do about the tool?’”

I don't know if I consider that a sane statement. If the AI goes rogue doing things the user didn't expect, why are we blaming the user and not the AI (and by extension its creator)?

Bruce Schneier has been talking a lot about 'genie effects' lately. When you tell an AI to complete a task and it goes far outside of what a rational person would expect to complete the task.

This is the same discussion we've been (not) having about self driving cars for the past decade. Who's responsible for damages when a self driving car causes an accident? At this point it seems like we've settled on the owner, not the company who created the self driving system. Which strikes me as insane.

I just finished There Is No Aniti-Memetics Division. It's a sci-fi book about memory eating monsters and the brave souls who protect us from them.

The writing was somewhat engrossing and was pretty good at evoking the fear and dread of impending doom. Though, it seemed to be intentionally confusing with a deus ex machina ending.

If I were the kind of mouth breather who listens to right wing podcasts I'd probably be very worried right now. Half of those losers are on testosterone supplements because their shows convince them they have low-T.

I'm not sure about the rich, but most people don't like being surrounded by homeless and starving people. They also don't like seeing their extended family homeless and starving after working their whole lives.

What fucking good does a one day strike do??

I can imagine a billionaire thinking: "Oh no! A one day strike! I everyone is going to have to wait till Saturday to give me their money."
