I have a m1pro, and it's pretty solid with kde. hdmi out does work through the port, but display port alt (over usbc) doesn't yet. 120hz refresh is working though, and it's just nice to have the macbook build quality with a good os.

I was getting hit with frequent (every few minute) game and gpu crashes in the lesser zone on a new game. I thought this was a linux or gpu related issue, but found some folks complain about it on r/stalker as well.

The fix* turned out to be disabling Async Compute and/or disabling intel low latency in the game settings. (I don't know which one fixed* this crash but I'm a little afraid to play with options atm.)

    * as with any random crash issue, this may or may not be fixed because it's seemingly random. But I've played for a few hours now undisturbed.

As someone who was too afraid to play any game with horror elements, I found watching horror game speedruns helped a lot. I end up just applying the "gotta go fast" mentality to these segments now, and I find it doesn't hurt "immersion" that much as I wouldn't have gotten that far to begin with.

Glad to have switched to a third party provider, even if they're using Telus lines for fibre.

Took me 2 hours to cancel my out of contract services, and 15 minutes to sign up with the new provider. 🫠
