One thing stuck out to me in two ways. Here is the quote: “wider harm to the music industry”.

First, you are so out to touch, the music industry lost pennies. Second, the people who REALLY go fucked was the consumer. This dood was out here scamming you and I, not some trillion dollar conglomerate.

This isn't even piracy IMO, it's just a scam. It reminds me of those preloaded ROM boxes you get off aliexpress. They have up to PS games but anything after 16bit and it locks up or the frame rate is less than 1fps.

This is some really long winded post about digital preservation on original cuts (eg: star wars, dollars trilogy, etc...). This is nothing new at all, this type of thing has been going on since lucas fucked with star wars. If you are really into this kinda thing, give it a read. If not, maybe skim it, it's really long and pretty dry.

I still grab everything and cold storage older/unwatched stuff onto blurays and this stack of ancient hdds i got from work. Seeing as space is so expensive now, I can see your view and would probably be taking that if I didn't already have a huge pool before the rampocalypse.

They have been since Napster. Netflix almost killed movie/tv torrenting. It was so cheap with so much content, it was more expensive to run an HTPC setup than pay like $5/month for NF streaming. Then every company wanted their own streaming service and ships reappeared.

It's seems like every time someone figures out the supply issue, they come along, put in a few road blocks and charge you money to get though to what you had before for free or way less.

To this day I still blame Lars. No talent drummer who's entire band was a success off the back of sharing their first EP which they SAID TO DO only to turn around and sue.

*arr stack with plex/jellyfin. I have my stack on a pi hooked into a NAS running plex (jellyfin soon if plex keeps up the shitty updates). Lookup some Trash guides. It's much simpler than it appears.

Atari you were SoL if you couldn't borrow the cart. C64 and other micro-computers had sneaker net piracy. Ahh, the days of going to your friends house cuz his dad just scored a bunch of software and just mass copying discs while you play on the Atari or NES is a core memory for me.

This is why i refuse to get any upscale published after 2019. That's when nVidia start with DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling). I'm good, thx. If i want an upscale I'll snag a remux or the actual dvd from Savers or something and upscale it myself.

After actually reading some of these articles, even the sellers of the rarers books stated that they were sellling stock they otherwise wouldn't. So yes, it's rare but no one wanted it.

The best case scenario is they just dump the books in full online using First Sale Doctrine. This way we don't lose the texts.

Step 4 optional, I would suggest ripping to file any DVDs you buy so you have a permanent copy.

This should be step 1 IMHO. You can either get a vhs to dvd unit or they have some much cheaper vhs to digital that you then capture the stream from OBS.

That's a bit over the top for grabbing some text books. That's like, opsec for running an IPTV service or something... but it is possible, and easy. Whip up a vm with a linux distro, connect to an open wifi (vpn if you have one, if not who really cares), and download away. Blow away the VM when done.
