Like another poster said, it's truly a microcosm of the MAGA/Republican governing style. Pay a buddy way too much pretending that the problem is easy to solve. The buddy grifts by cheaping out on everything. They fuck up the system so badly it becomes a cesspool. And result is that it gets worse and becomes even more expensive to fix.

Claude can do some medium complicated sites from scratch relatively quickly. The problem is I've seen so many of these at work, not just from non-engineers, but from peers too, that they're easy to spot. AI sites/apps are going to be the new geocities.

But when you want to move beyond the basic thing that impresses the c suites for some reason, it hits a pretty big wall in speed to output and needs a lot more hand holding.

I fear that the c suites don't really care about quality, just speed and saving money. So while I'm a much better developer than Claude (which is imo the best at the moment), I don't think that makes my job secure. I have to use the AI, and it's getting silly/scary religious here about it. We have to talk about how we used AI and how it's making things better. And to make things worse, I don't see a company that's not drinking the Flavor Aid.

It can be useful, and used right, you can do a lot of things faster. But the expectations from the top don't align with the reality of the product, and us developers are being blamed for the gap.

In my mind, an argument isn't about proving myself right and the other wrong. I long ago changed my goals of arguing to learning something in the process. This works for me and it tends to encourage the right people and infuriate the people who deserve it. Though I still tend to be mean from time to time if I feel like the other person/people are being disingenuous. I still have work to do on myself.

Real answer is probably AI slop. Several companies have the idea that if code is only going to be done by AI, then it doesn't matter if it's human readable. I imagine this is something like that but for cables.

This is the same shit they've always done. They're testing the waters to see what they can get away with. They'll get there, but this was a little too soon. Give it a few more months.

He didn't resist, the little fuckers emptied a can of mace into him then started hitting him with the can. They were pulling him all over the place while he was getting beat on by a swarm of fuckers angry at him for daring to try and protect an innocent woman from getting abused. One of the best of us was killed by two of the worst of us.
