I saw this post on my computer last night but it only showed as a PNG. Saw it this morning on my phone where I can see the video. Not sure why.

Anyway, ouch. Not grubby, just bad luck, but still not good. I hear he got 2 weeks for it.

    Yeah I think on the hit just happens sometimes, bad timing

    Also yeah Lemmy is weird with thumbnails, basically if I upload a video and don't put a thumbnail I noticed way less people look at them and there's way more downvotes

    But when I upload a thumbnail I think if you click on the thumbnail itself then Lemmy just makes the thumbnail bigger which is weird

    TBH it'd be nice if Lemmy just grabbed a random part of the video and made a thumbnail out of it but it is what it is

    I mean, ffs if Lemmy could at least just grab the og:image and og:title metadata that the site themselves share, in the case of sites like YouTube. That wouldn't help with your own hosting site which doesn't have that sort of metadata, but it'd make the experience a lot better for the larger number of people sharing from YouTube, where they get no thumbnail and have to manually choose a title, when any other site generates the thumbnail and suggests a title automatically.
