I gotta give plasma another try now that we're on 6.x, I keep hearing good things. I think I'll probably still be a gnome person but if kde was in a better place than last time I used it that'd be rad. I don't always love the way gnome is run as a project 😅

I started with gnome, because I disliked the style of plasma, but with latest major change I made the switch, first I themed it to be macOS style (dock + top bar) but maintaining a themed desktop (especially missing icons) was a PITA, so now I just use endeavourOS plasma theme as it comes out of box 😂

    Guess I got old

I love KDE and it's great that they're adding more polish to it each time they update.

Okay, first off, I'm really impressed that Lemmy (the web interface anyway) embeds TIL.vids video player and it just works. Since it's peertube, I guess I shouldn't be surprised. (I wonder how hard it is to create a peertube instance, hmmm.)

Next: as a former KDE dev, I love these sorts of updates. Put it on the background while I was working this morning :)

Most interesting: hiding things from screencasting... if Plasma were ever deployed in an educational context, this will hurt the anti-cheating software that screencasts your screen during test taking. Well, they probably make you use windows in that situation anyway ;)

Weirdest: mouse pointer stays in centre mode... bizarre. Would be fun to couple with an eye tracking camera to create a fucked up feedback loop haha.

Where can I go to ask for help troubleshooting my Xbox controller to be used as an input device on the desktop? Currently it shows up, works ingame, but it does nothing on the desktop...

I'm having a really hard time figuring out how to use my Xbox controller as an input device. It shows up and works great in games, and in the "game controllers" settings menu, but it doesn't do anything on the desktop. I've enabled the toggle for "use as input device" and nothing happens. Where can I go to ask questions for troubleshooting? The matrix server doesn't allow new members (I cannot make an account), and there doesn't seems like there's a discord server to ask questions directly.
