Basically it was an attempt to address the nonsensical inequalities between men and women, like how it's socially acceptable for men to be topless but not women.
Personally, I don't really know anyone who was strongly opposed to the movement, though the ones I knew who strongly supported it definitely had different motivations than was intended.
Free the Nipple was/is a social movement aimed at women's equality. As a guy, I only read a bit about it.
It aimed to give women more rights that men already have, like being topless in public (hence the name).
Wish I knew more, but I actually haven't heard much about it in recent years.
