The Bolognina turning point was the epilogue of a political process which, starting from the end of the 1970s, led on 3 February 1991 to the dissolution of the Italian Communist Party and its transformation into the Democratic Party of the Left. It takes its name from the PCI branch in Bolognina, a district of the Navile quarter of Bologna, where on 12 November 1989 the PCI secretary Achille Occhetto made the announcement.
