From James himself, when he was asked about the short runtime of the album (just under 33 minutes in the UK release):

Many of my tracks are better if you play them at 33 rpm. I have never denied that. That’s also why my pieces are so short: you can only press them onto maxi singles if they are short at 45 rpm. If they go for too long, then they don’t fit onto the vinyl—and then you can’t play them slower. That’s also the real reason why my album ended up so short. Buy it on vinyl. Instead of 33 minutes, you actually get 45, you understand? And there you have it, an album of standard length.

This post kinda continues the theme from yesterday.

This is great, it's honestly the first time I've connected to aphex twin at all, thanks

Faster tracks from later albums like ‘Drukqs’ also do well with this treatment — you can find the album slowed-down on YouTube, although I'm not sure that the pitch is changed accordingly, as it changes on vinyl (or rather, that pitch correction was disabled in software).

I also used this method with other tunes, and it works quite well with some stuff like μ-Ziq's idm. However, VLC and sox produce good quality, while ffmpeg doesn't, so gotta watch out for that.

You might dig Radio Soulwax's ‘Cherry Moon on Valium’ mix, which is hardcore and gabber slowed down the same way as techno was back in the day to produce new-beat.
