Most of you probably already know that since Democrats have won both chambers of Congress, the next battle (which we need to fight for the next couple weeks) is to pressure our Democratic members of Congress to select new, more progressive leadership than Chuck Schumer & Hakeem Jeffries or their ilk. 

I’ve drafted both a letter as well as a phone script, using wording strategically recommended by grassroots organizers, to use to contact our senators and representatives EVERY DAY. 

The most important thing you can do, outside of personally contacting any democratic congresspeople you have, is to spread the word and these tools to as many people as you can, so that they know that what we are telling them is a mandate from the vast majority of their constituents.

Phone script for Democratic Senators:

My name is [FULL NAME], and I am a constituent calling from zip code [ZIP CODE]. Now that We the People have won the Senate Majority for you, we have two requests to make of you if you wish to earn our trust, support, and future votes.

The first is that you publicly call for an open process to choose new Senate Democratic leadership. No elected official — not even Chuck Schumer — should be coronated as leader behind closed doors. We need a leader who understands that fascists are not allies with whom to work alongside, they are enemies to be held accountable.

We also demand that you publicly go on the record before you choose a new Senate Democratic leader, to state who you will support as leader. If you have the interests of your constituents in mind, you should have no problem sharing your position beforehand.

Phone script for Democratic U.S. House Representatives:

My name is [FULL NAME], and I am a constituent calling from zip code [ZIP CODE]. Now that We the People have won the House for you, we have two requests to make of you if you wish to earn our trust, support, and future votes.

No elected official — not even Hakeem Jeffries — should be coronated as leader or Speaker behind closed doors. We need a leader who understands that fascists are not allies with whom to work alongside, they are enemies to be held accountable.

We also demand that you publicly go on the record before you choose a new House Democratic leader, to state who you will support as Speaker of the House. If you have the interests of your constituents in mind, you should have no problem sharing your position beforehand.
