To be clear, I disabled it later and I still can't see anything. I also can't see any comments, either.

Yes, that's a recurring problem 😭

I think we should try a language filter in the top nav bar along other filters.

  • dropdown menu : languages
  • checkboxes with languages we chose + all
  • link to language setting

I think giving the option to users to change their language directly in any pages would be better.

And we could expand it to no connected user, so they can find content related to their mother tongue.

And i would do the same for theming.

It's quite better now that it used to be. Maybe there could be a warning if the page doesn't display anything more recent than a month, then show "this page look empty, do you want to review your language settings"? Or something like that.

Mlem did something similar with hide read. It was a very common complaint that people were unable to see posts, so the devs made it so if you refresh your feed twice in quick succession it says "you are holding read posts. Do you want to show them?"

Edit added screenshot of the actual message.

That would be a nice feature. Well i'm opening an issue :)

"There are several post in other language language. Would you like to see them ?

"Added english to your language setting. Do you want to apply the change ?"

Good idea, That would be the easiest solution and will decrease post related to language problem. Along the language warning :)

But i also think that a langage filter would be nice and won't take up lot place in the UI. It would help user to find content related to their language and switch it. :)
