I refuse to believe that these component shortages weren't at least somewhat intentional

Honestly, I can't say that I fully understand economics at scale, but I guess that when a buyer big enough goes to a manufacturer and books a big chunk of their capacity for a year or two ahead, the manufacturer has to take that deal. I wouldn't be surprised if there are a lot of off-the-books arrangements along with that. It sounds logical, but yeah, feels big time unfair to the end user.

I hate myself for not upgrading before the shortage. I was like "yeah, I can do another year or two with what I have", partly not wanting to buy new things just because, partly cautious of the AM5 motherboard/CPU failures here and there. It's wild to think that less than 500 EUR/USD used to buy a 96 gig memory kit.

I suspect that has a lot to do with it. I do wonder how much of those deals were above board and how much of them were... not.

I'm running with a rig I built in 2018. I'd hoped to upgrade around the 10-year mark, buuuuuuuut I might see if I can wring a little more life out of everything longer. My 2080 Ti is, thankfully, still chugging along but I'm sure that won't be forever.

Yet another hobby I'm quickly becoming priced-out of
