Recently completed ecological restoration work has attracted many sandpipers and plovers to a newly created salt marsh. One goal of the restoration was providing a retreat for wildlife from climate crisis driven rising sea levels. Work was completed just in time for this year's El Niño created Kelvin wave raising seasonal king tides to record highs. A recent avian survey in Big Canyon recorded 45 species in a two hour observation period.
