Long story short, I need to have a bunch of shared accounts with family for finance and insurance and stuff, mostly for the sake of family members who are getting old and need help keeping things organized. So the requirements are:

  • Shared over long distances; just having each of us have our own password manager won't work well
  • Usable for non-techie people, so no command line stuff
  • I can self-host a web thing if necessary
  • Works on Linux and MacOS/iOS

I would just use 1Password, but recent events have demonstrated them as not exactly competent. I could always use KeepassXC and keep the file in a Google Drive folder, or maybe teach my siblings to use Syncthing, but that feels like extra steps we could do without. Anyone have any recommendations for how to do this well?

Been using Bitwarden to share family secrets. Works great, has good support, and is on the cheaper side. It does have self hosting capabilities if you desire, but I have not dabbled with it yet to know the full hosting capabilities.
