Isn't that all entertainment so some degree? Television/movies, video games, amusement parks...It's all just escapism from the daily grind.

Some (most?) entertainment is meant to be provoking to some degree. I would say cheap media is meant to be escapism and nothing more, but media trying to be worthwhile should stick with you somehow. Leave an impression, start a fandom, give you new perspectives, whatever it may be.
