From yesterday's walk and more shaded than the wren I posted - still, I think it gets the vibe. It's the hind claws that get me on treecreepers.

Both the white breasted nuthatch and Carolina wren both look very distinct from the brown creeper, so it should stand out if I see one.

I was pretty surprised the wiki says the creeper is even smaller than the nuthatch. That's one small bird!

Here's the WB nuthatch

And the Carolina wren

(Just random Google pics)

I wish I wasn't so intimidated working with the songbirds, I see so many types of bird that I never knew we had. This year I finally saw an oriole, and we had a thrasher, which likes to run around in the ground, they call it the "Eastern roadrunner." Got up close to a pileated woodpecker and some flickers this season as well. Getting to see them up close is fun, but I still think encountering new animals at random in the wild is still the most fun!

All I can suggest is Merlin Sound ID to at least get an idea of what's around, and lots of looking for birds! Or hang around bird feeders (my feeders are on a small balcony so hard to get the distance to photo/not scare off).

Appears I've not had much success with (European) Nuthatch photos for a while - these are from 2024, and they are larger than Treecreepers (perhaps Blackbird > Nuthatch > Tree Creeper > Blue Tit)
