You get to guarantee your seat in a theater on a specific day. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] LadyMeow@lemmy.blahaj.zone -4 points 2 weeks ago (1 child) I mean…. Game preorders seem weird too. But at least you could be excited to play some new game with friends, probably all over the world. Im sure there is something to be said for seeing a movie on opening night and all, but doesn’t have near the same luster to me. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 1 child comment replies: [–] thethrilloftime69@feddit.online 2 points 2 weeks ago Game pre-orders make less sense. The worst time to buy a game is at launch. It's the most expensive it will ever be and the least functional it will ever be. At least with a movie, you guarantee that you will get to see a movie at a certain time. permalink fedilink source parent [–] thethrilloftime69@feddit.online 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 child) There's a 70mm Imax theatre near me. There's one in the whole state. The screen is ridiculous. It's like 5 stories tall. Because of the rarity of this kind of screen, getting tickets to movies like Odyssey or Dune 3 for it is very difficult. Dune doesn't come out until December, but I already bought tickets to see the movie in 70mm Imax back in August. Otherwise I might not have a chance to see it until January. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 1 child comment replies: [–] joelfromaus@aussie.zone 2 points 2 weeks ago I heard when Odyssey was released that Australia has 1 x 70mm IMAX theatre. Not in the state, in the country. In fact after a little searching maybe in the southern hemisphere… permalink fedilink source parent [–] FridaVanMercury@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 2 weeks ago I mean, haven't we always been doing that? Tickets for anything that is a show that hasn't happened yet could be described as presale. If a movie isn't running yet, but soon, you can buy tickets for it. It is not such a weird concept, I just don't think it had been called a presale. permalink fedilink source parent [–] chuckleslord@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago ... now? Pre-sales have been a thing for, at least, a couple of decades at this point. Bought pre-sale tickets to Pirates of the Caribbean 2 permalink fedilink source parent [–] JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago BNPL coming soon... permalink fedilink source parent [–] keyez@lemmy.world 1 point 2 weeks ago I bought my Dune part 3 IMAX tickets like 2 months ago yeah permalink fedilink source parent
