That's something I have to look into more because I don't know the full truth yet regarding if the TV connects to unsecure WiFi networks from neighbouring houses or if that was just theoretically possible and getting parroted as if it was actually already happening. I have a newer LG that just sits on HDMI 3 and never connected to the internet....that I know of. I can remove the WiFi chip if I need to.
Edit: I think the actually connecting to unsecure wifi is misinformation. The source is a reddit comment, Gamer's Nexus / Level1 didn't say that.
Direct quote from Burke is the bit of informational nuance getting butchered online I think:
Internet service providers sometimes have dual SSIDs that include open neighborhood Wi-Fi broadcast from customer routers, such as with Comcast’s Xfinity neighborhood hotspot and AT&T’s public hotspots, which are sometimes autoconnected to by devices when they discover the open network, such as in an apartment building from neighbors using such routers. So this is a concern broadly speaking and future looking for smart TVs regardless of the brand.
