am I the only one that thinks this kind of software is dumb?

what does it do? copies files to ~/Applications, provides a was to run Appimages without the need for fuse2, provides a mac like way to install Appimages?

Nothing this app does is more then a one liner for every competent user. why bother?

oh yeah, it's Ubuntu...

Doubtful. And for the same reason this ‘basically-a-one-liner’ is neat

Not everybody knows or cares what a one liner is. Noe everyone is a competent user. Some people just want to drag and drop. Some people come from the Mac world and want things to work that way. Some people don’t and still want it 🤷

Linux is pretty big these days.

I use appman which is more of a repo for appimages. I will try this for one important reason. "AppManager is open source and, naturally, distributed as an AppImage itself." This is essentially what I have been looking for. maybe. I want something like appman that is a gui that is itself an appimage and further gives a gui start menu kind of thing. why? because then you can just move a folder to a new machine and boom you have all your software ready to go.

I'm not sure I really understand this. I mean I understand the goal, but do we not have that without the manager piece?

So like I have a folder called AppImages. I right-click properties allow exec. I make a menu launcher.

I can now move that folder to a new PC, and ... Maybe this is where it shines?... I don't have to right click on each and I don't have to make launchets for each (or clone the menu folder i guess).

Or does it like ... Check for newer versions or something? What am I missing?

I strongly prefer AppImages for a number of reasons so I'm all about having something useful for them.

I have not used it yet but what im hoping is it will do updates like appman (which basically acts like a software distro manager ala yum, apt, etc) and a start menu for things in the directory. Basically this is how portable apps works with windows and I hope to replicate it in linux. Each level sorta helps. like appimages themselves are fine but then appman makes installation and update and removal more organized. having it install as an appimage and be a gui would be a bit upgrade and having it act as a gui start menu to all the apps would be further more of one. what I have now works alright but I would not mind it being a bit better.

Ah yeah I got ya. Thinking about it, having AppImage manager (and one that keeps things updated) would be pretty nice.

I actually have Autonomix b ikmarked to try, it promises to do similar. I currently use deb-get for deb package management but I winter something less tied to deb
