But how many people will actually admit to having an Ai "girlfriend"? Surely the number is much higher than what is being freely stated.

    Yes, that may well be a factor reducing the reported number. But given that in this survey, nobody had to directly say that - boys were free to surmise that people they knew had one - less of a factor than otherwise, I'd say.
